BIGOSA is a multidisciplinary professional society founded in 2011. We bring together surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, breast care nurses and allied healthcare professionals to improve breast healthcare through education, scientific exchange, collaboration and professional leadership.
Breast healthcare is delivered by multidisciplinary teams. Every patient benefits when surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, nurses and allied healthcare professionals work together, share knowledge and apply consistent standards of care.
BIGOSA exists to support that collaboration.
Through education, scientific exchange and professional engagement, we help strengthen clinical practice and contribute to improving breast healthcare across Southern Africa.

Each year it brings together local and international faculty to share the latest research, clinical evidence and practical advances across surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology and allied disciplines. In addition to the annual congress, BIGOSA continues to expand its educational offering through workshops, webinars and professional development initiatives.
It requires systems that consistently deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary care. The BIGOSA Breast Centres Initiative is working to establish a framework for accredited breast centres across Southern Africa, helping translate best practice into measurable standards of care.
As the initiative develops, it will provide a pathway for institutions committed to delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary breast healthcare.
